$29.5 Million
Unglesby Law Firm won class certification for landowners living near a hazardous waste disposal facility managed by CECOS International, and the site operator agreed to pay $29.5 million to resolve those claims. The firm also successfully opposed further permitting requests by CECOS to continue burying waste at the location.
$11.1 Million
Unglesby Law Firm secured an $11.1 million award for a former basketball player and single mother who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a wholly preventable car accident. $9.3 Million
Unglesby Law Firm represented a client grievously injured when the dump truck in which he was a passenger fell 30 feet off a bridge and burst into flames, killing the driver and causing severe burns that required months of treatment, skin grafts, and reconstructive surgery. The firm also showed that the propane supplier violated multiple Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission safety regulations.
$5 Million
Unglesby Law Firm represented the family of a wife and mother who died from progressive respiratory failure caused by asbestos-related lung cancer following take-home exposure to asbestos dust carried home on her husband’s work clothes. The defendant argued that her death resulted from a separate preexisting pulmonary condition, but the evidence showed that take-home asbestos exposure from the defendant’s facility caused her lung cancer and that the lung cancer was a substantial contributing cause of her death. The court awarded a total of $5 million, including: $2.75 million for the survival claim, $850,000 to the husband for wrongful death, and $700,000 to each of their adult daughters.
